What is New Student orientation?
This is a 2-day experience for freshman and transfer students, to help get connected and learn about campus resources.
Why attend New student orientation?
- Your participation will help you:
- Get connected to new friends, faculty, and to the university
- Get familiar with campus
- Get help through the many services and resources available at the university
- Get involved
Coming to Rexburg - Tips to Prepare Ahead of Time!
Avoid Traffic
- The main exit to BYU-Idaho is Rexburg 332, but that often gets backed up. Other exits available for use include:
- 328 - Thornton
- 333 - Main Street
- 337 - North Rexburg
Need Lodging
- Make reservations now, as local hotels in Rexburg and Idaho Falls tend to fill quickly.
Moving In
- The official day to move-in is Friday, January 5th.
- Consider moving in early, so you can fully participate in Get Connected!
- Check with your housing complex to see when you can move-in. Most complexes will allow students to move-in early for a small fee.

Groceries & Household items
- It is not uncommon for groceries and household items to run low during move-ins and the first week of the semester.
- Plan accordingly and get your items early!

Student Express
- Parking
- Campus parking is open to the public during Get Connected, but it will be ticketed once classes start!
- If you plan to park on campus during the school year you will need a permit.
- Parking passes are limited, so apply online now through Student Express.
- I-Card (Student ID)
- You will need to submit a photo of yourself prior to coming to Rexburg. This photo will be used for your I-Card.
- Follow the I-Card request process through Student Express.
- Textbooks
- Save time and hassle by ordering your books and class supplies ahead of time through Student Express.

- Update your personal contact information under your profile in the top right corner on the my.byui.edu page.
Communicate with your New Student Mentors
- Your New Student Mentors will reach out to you before the semester begins by way of phone, text, or email.
- Respond to their communication. They are excited to get to know you! They will set up a time and place for you to meet for Get Connected.
